Membership Programs

2025-2026 Schedule

Poughkeepsie AAUW, Inc.’s General Membership Programs are planned both to fulfill the mission of the Association and to target members’ interests. Detailed information about each program can be found in the monthly newsletter, The Branch.

The following programs/meetings and events are free and open to the public.

Meetings are generally held on the second Thursday of the month, either in-person or via ZOOM as indicated below. Please check “The Branch,” your AAUW email, and this website for updates and details as well as links to register for Zoom meetings.

Unless otherwise indicated, IN-PERSON meetings from October-December and March through May are at  the Freedom Plains United Presbyterian Church, 1168 Route 55, LaGrangeville, NY 12540. Directions HERE

January and February meetings will be via ZOOM.

All ongoing, new or deciding members are invited to attend this in-person, annual “Meet and Greet” event for an overview of programs, interest groups and initiatives and all our Branch has to offer.

Thursday, November 11, 2025: “Changes in Fashion for University and Professional Women”
David Roberts, Marist University

What did women wear for the first meeting of our branch in 1925? Professor Roberts will present an illustrated history of clothing trends for college students and women in the workforce over the past 100 years. There will also be a brief business meeting.

Thursday, December 11, 2025: “DCC and AAUW: Supporting Education in the Mid-Hudson Valley”
Margaret Teichman Craig, Associate Professor of Art History, Dutchess Community College

Prof. Craig will discuss our intertwined history and the future of DCC. Funds for the Centennial Scholarship will be presented to the College at this celebration and the anonymous donor who has matched the funds raised will be revealed.

 Thursday, January 8, 2026: “Bias in Women’s Healthcare Today”
Christine VanHorne, Adjunct Instructor in Science, Technology, and Society, Vassar College

Have you ever felt dismissed or ignored during a doctor’s appointment? We’ll uncover how decades of exclusion and misconception have left women misdiagnosed, undertreated, and unheard. Participants will learn strategies for taking back their power in clinical settings.

Thursday, March 12, 2026: “The 40th Council Meeting of the International Federation of University Women at Vassar College, 1958”
Ron Patkus, PhD. Head of Special Collections and College Historian, Vassar College

The IFUW held its annual conference at Vassar College in 1958. Prof. Patkus will discuss the history and mission of this organization and how our branch and the local community made the delegates feel welcomed and introduced them to the region.

Our schedule usually looks like this when we meet in person and we generally follow this approximate schedule for our virtual meetings, as well:

7:00 – 7:30 pm: Welcome from Celia Serotsky, Poughkeepsie Branch AAUW President, and others as scheduled.

7:30 – 8:30 pm: The program presentation and a “questions and answer” period

8:30 -8:45 pm: Additional announcements and socializing
