How to Participate

Poughkeepsie Logo

We strongly encourage all our members to participate in the activities, events and ongoing work of the Poughkeepsie Branch of the AAUW.

We believe that some of the biggest benefits of joining this organization are: meeting like-minded women, working together on important women’s issues, forming lasting friendships, sharing fun times, and supporting each other.

We have three types of ongoing activities:

General Membership Programs/Meetings for all members and the general public at no charge.

Interest Groups for AAUW members only

Community Service Initiatives and Board Committees include members and non-members

Some activities require a fee for a meal served or entertainment provided.

General Membership Meetings

General Membership programs/meetings, held September through June, are most often on the second Thursday of the month but please check the website or our newsletter for details. Registration is NOT required for In-Person meetings from September-December and March-May. However, please note that registration is required for the January and February ZOOM meetings.

Schedule of the General Membership Programs/Meetings may be found under  Membership Programs

Interest Groups

We have 19 Interest Groups which meet once a month and run the gamut from book groups to trekking and cuisine. Members may participate in as many Interest Groups as they wish. You can join a group by calling the group coordinator.  Groups and contact information for coordinators is listed under Interest Groups

Community Service Initiatives and Board Committees

We have 7 Community Service Initiatives and 3 Board Committees that provide volunteer opportunities for our members. Members may participate in as many Community Service Initiatives or Committees as they wish. To become familiar with our programs and to participate contact the program Chair. Meeting schedules of the Community Service Initiatives and Board Committees vary. The contact information is available under Community Service or  Board Committees or use the search function on the home page.

Our newsletter, The Branch, provides details on all meetings and events for each upcoming month.   Newsletters
